MT 110 is a bank telling another bank — usually the one the cheque will eventually be presented to — that it has issued a specific cheque. Sent proactively, before the cheque is ever deposited, it lets the receiving bank pre-validate a cheque against genuine, expected details when it does show up, cutting down on cheque fraud and processing delays for larger-value instruments.
Key fields
- 20 — Sender's Reference: Reference for the advice.
- 53a — Sender's Correspondent: The account the cheque will be drawn against, if routed through a correspondent.
- 21 — Cheque Number (repeated): The actual serial number printed on the cheque, one occurrence per cheque advised.
- 30 — Date of Issue: When the cheque was written.
- 32a — Amount: The cheque's face value.
- 50a — Payer: Who wrote the cheque.
- 59 — Payee: Who the cheque is made out to.
A single MT 110 can advise several cheques at once, each as its own repeated block of these fields — useful when a customer issues a batch of cheques on the same day.
