MT 730 is a bank acknowledging receipt of an LC-related message — an issuance, an amendment, or another instruction — and, often in the same message, advising its own charges for handling it. It's a lightweight confirmation that something has been received and actioned, distinct from the substantive responses like an MT 734 refusal or an MT 754 payment advice.
Key fields
- 20 — Sender's Reference: Reference for this acknowledgement.
- 21 — Related Reference: The message being acknowledged — for example, the MT 700 or MT 707 it's responding to.
- 32a — Amount of Charges: If the bank is charging a fee for its handling, shown here.
- 71B — Details of Charges: A breakdown of what those charges represent.
- 72 / 79 — Narrative: Free text for any further comment.
Banks use MT 730 heavily in practice simply to keep the paper trail complete — every message in an LC's life should have a corresponding acknowledgement, so nothing goes unaccounted for if a dispute arises later.
